The Hidden Sanctuary Exhibition provides an opportunity to engage and encourage other people facing similar challenges to access participatory arts or therapeutic arts opportunities for health, wellbeing or social benefit.
Bazooka Arts and Glasgow Print Studio present 'Hidden Sanctuary' a collection of original screenprints created in partnership with participants who access Bazooka Arts’ Creative & Connected Carers therapeutic arts programme.
The ITAC Relay, a national participatory arts relay was the catalyst for this work. Twelve beautiful artworks from Project Ability provided stimulus to respond to. The rich golden tones, vivid patterns, layers, hidden imagery and the natural environment were recurrent themes provided wonderful inspiration and inspired the title, Hidden Sanctuary.
Drawing on inspiration from Project Ability’s work and the theme Hidden Sanctuary, the participants created marks, patterns and drawings on drafting film which was exposed onto screens and developed over 4 days in Glasgow Print Studio, working alongside professional artists in the open access printmaking production space.
The group, expertly guided by Printmaker Rosalind Lawless explored a wide range of printing techniques including caran d’ache, mono printing, stencilling and collage to create multi layered screen prints. “It was sheer joy from start to finish. I loved every minute of working together with the artists. It really was my Sanctuary. It was better than any therapy I’ve ever had”.
Bazooka Arts and Glasgow Print Studio work with shared values, that the arts should be truly accessible for everyone and firmly believe in the multiple health, personal and social benefits experienced through arts participation.
